John Miller said "Five years ago, we might have had a call about bedbugs once a year and we'd be like, 'Wow, that's strange,' " he said. "Two years ago, we'd get that call maybe once a month. Now it's every single day, it seems."

James Miller, operations director of J.P. Miller & Sons Services pest control company in Deerfield Beach, said bedbug calls have risen from one a month a couple of years ago to one a day.

When his workers go out on a bedbug call, they require the client to eliminate all clutter. They then go into drawers and closets, and will even dismantle furniture in search of the insects.

Of all the creatures they deal with — wasps, bees, rodents, ants, fleas, ticks, roaches and termites — bedbugs are "our most difficult pest," Miller said.
